One of those days

It's been one of those days trying to strike a balance while juggling multiple activities. And then the phone rings, distracting me while I am trying to complete random tasks. I say Hello and a voice at the other end squeaks, "Hello, Sir! I am calling from B***** Insurance. Do you have a minute?" Of course I don't have a minute and have never possessed time.

I am ready to explode, but politely inform the squeaky lady that I am not a man and my voice definitely doesn't sound like a Sir. She then unceremoniously proceeds to ask me my "good name". That's it. I can't handle this anymore. I inform her that I don't possess a good name or a bad name and hang up.

Hahahaha ! I so miss the 'please take our credit card, madam' calls ... remember how they would ring one desk after another ?! I miss the fun!

Yeah that still happens though I dont find that fun I guess coz I am still here... However, it is fun listening to how different people deal in diff ways...some slam the phone down...some like Sachin will ask ridiculous questions...and frustrate the telecaller till they hang up I guess...:) Some will yell and give the choicest gaalis... Well, the saga continues

well happens with me also...keeping all the frustration aside, I simply say "thanks, but not interested!"
At times, i don't even wait for a response from the other side...

Yeah I guess that's best... We need to keep our frustrations aside...after all these guys are just doing their job.... However, I still wish the DNC list was effective here in India...

Spare a thought for those of us in the insurance industry ....our livelihood depends on those pesky calls !

On a more serious note, these tele-callers are doing a job. In many cases, these tele-callers are from lower middle-class families who are the first generation of women to actually step out of their homes and make an attempt at being self-reliant.

These are girls (and boys) who have not had the opportunity of a good education and hence they have to opt for jobs like that of a tele-sales officer -- which believe me is probably one of the worst jobs in the world.
